BC Business Magazine -
General business news and articles covering British Columbia. Click on
the "Business Resources" tab for links to local businesses.
CanadaOne -
online magazine for small businesses. A wide variety of topics.
Canadian Lawyer Magazine -
General legal news and events are covered in the print publication. Note:
only the table of contents for the current issue is shown online. Less
than useful site, but you can subscribe to the publication through the
website.
Canoe Money -
Business and economic news, stock market indexes, stock look-up
service.
Chain Store Age Online - U.S. Retail trade publication, online
archive of past issues has some Canadian data (you must register, but
no fees to search archives). Click on "research" tab for industry data
for a variety of retail sectors. Good list of North American online
retailers (link to list found at bottom of "Research" page).
Discount Store News Retailing Today Online - U.S. Retail trade
publication, search through archives for Canadian articles. Many
articles on large U.S. retailers (many have Canadian subsidiaries).
IE: Money - Mainly a
personal finance magazine, but also includes news and articles on taxes,
small business issues, etc. Browse or search online archives.
Ivey Business Journal - Website includes a summary of contents of current and past issues (not the
full text). No search capability. You can order current and past issues
through the website.
Macleans.ca - A general consumer magazine, but a variety of business
and market-related articles can be located in the online archive (use the
search feature at the top of the home page)
CBC Audience Research Department - Several reports on Internet,
television and radio audiences. Select the "Free reports and Papers" link
to get the reports. Select the "Key to research terms" link for a
glossary of terminology used in the reports.
CBC Newsworld - Similar to the
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation site listed above, but content of site
is from CBC's "Newsworld" show.
CanWest Global - News, weather and
sports from local television stations across Canada. Select a region,
from Atlantic provinces to Vancouver, to get local information.
CTV - News, sports and
entertainment stories from CTV's national television programs.
CTV News - Summary of news stories
from CTV's programs, with an optional live video stream (requires REAL
VIDEO PLAYER or equivalent).
Radio
Marketing Bureau - All of the research in this site is restricted to
members, however there is a radio station locator guide which is
available to the public.
Report on Business Television (ROBTV)
- Business, financial and market news from the ROBTV program. Site also
has live streaming video (requires REAL VIDEO PLAYER or equivalent).
Telefilm Canada - Contains information on television and film
production in Canada.
Television Bureau of Canada
- Click on "Public TV Basics 2000-2001" to download a report on trends,
statistics, station information and industry data. Click on "Get to know
TVB members" to get a list of networks and specialty channels (including
links to their websites).
Canada NewsWire - Current and archived news releases. Also an online
archive of photos, listed by organization.
Canadian Association of Broadcasters - News releases, reports and
background information on issues relating to television and radio. Good
links to member websites.
CCNMatthews - Canadian corporate newswire. Current news releases, plus
searchable archive.
Media Awareness Network - Statistics on media usage, media content,
media industries and media issues.
Toronto New Media Works - A study on new media industry drivers,
barriers, access to capital, labour markets and training systems. Click
on the "Toronto New Media Works Study" link to download the .PDF report.
Northern News Services
- click on "Visitors" to get news summaries from 5
local publications. You can get a free 1 week guest subscription (click
on "Subscribers" and follow links to guest registry) to the full text.
York Region Media Group - news and
articles from The Liberal, The Era-Banner, Economist and Sun, King Tribune,
Georgina Advocate, Stouffville Tribune, Stouffville Sun. Covers Aurora,

Business Development Bank of Canada - Financial ratio calculators
such as debt-to-asset, current, quick, asset utilization, inventory
turnover, return on assets, etc.
Living Costs - City Comparisons - This is an internal city cost of
living calculator. To get the cost of living differential between two
Canadian cities, select "Canada" in the "From Country" list, and select
"Canada" in the "To Country" list. Then click on "Show Cities". You can
then select two Canadian cities for comparison.
Bank of Canada - Weekly financial statistics for the Bank of Canada.
Click on the "Publications and Research" button for reports on currency,
monetary policy, etc.
Royal Bank - a variety of reports on economic trends and projections.
Canadian Venture Capital Association - Statistics and reports on
venture capital activity. Click on the "Members" button for a list of
Canadian venture capital companies.
Government of New Brunswick - Financing and advice for manufacturers
and processors wanting to export outside of the Maritime Canada region.
Government of Newfoundland, Labrador - A variety of tax incentives,
development assistance, employment assistance and financial assistance
programs/services for companies operating in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Government of Quebec - Export financing for businesses based in
Quebec (Note: French language website).
GrantsCanada.com - This site sells information regarding government
grant programs, however there are a few free "samples." If any of the
free samples are of interest, try running the names through the Canadian
Search Engines, before you pay for anything!
Northstar Trade Finance Inc. - A cooperative effort by EDC, Western
Economic Diversification, BC Government, Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank,
HSBC, and the National bank which provides financing for export projects.
ACNielsen - Several free reports on several market sectors: dairy,
beverage, cleaning products, grocery, drugs, infant care.
ACNielsen - Internet usage statisitics and reports.
ActivMedia Incorporated - Sells reports on e-business activity,
however some statistics and information are available at no charge in the
report summaries.
Acumen Research Group - Sells consumer research reports, however some
statistics and information are available as free "highlight" downloads
and in report summaries.
BizStats - The information in this
site is based on U.S. company data, but it has been included as there is
very good information for the construction industry, retailing and
distribution and services sector. Much of this information (such as
payroll and operating expenses as percentages of revenue) would be
similar for Canadian businesses.
Canadian Policy Research Network - Online publications concerning
economic and social issues. Select from the drop-down list of "CPRN
Publications."
CommerceNet - Internet usage, demographics and related statistics.
Compass - Many surveys in areas of: business, consumer, elections,
health, policy, unity, sports, taxes, etc.
Cyfernet - A U.S. site, but contains many reports, statistics and
surveys on topics such as: adolescent and young adult behaviour, emerging
21st century family, trends in violence in high schools, working poor
families with children, crime, health, etc.
Decima Research - A
fee-based research company, but free statistics and reports can be found
in two areas: (1) click on "What's New," or (2) click on "Search our
Site." Covers a variety of subjects.
eMarketer - Reports, surveys and statistics on Internet and
e-business. Click on the "free trial" button to get free reports.
Ernst and Young - Reports and surveys on: privacy issues,
telecommunications market, careers/trades, consumer behaviour and customer
service, Ontario and Municipaly government services, mutual funds, health
care, call centres, credit.
Evans Research Corp. - Industry sector summaries for: digital
cameras, digital projectors, monitors, printers, networking, PCs,
storage, scanners, printer supplies, and hand-held devices. Also reports
on distribution channels and small-medium business. Select the area that
is of interest, and then click on "Industry Snapshot".
Forrester Research - A U.S. site but very good research (most is fee
based, but some free reports and information in report summaries). Areas
covered include: e-business, retail and marketing, media, entertainment,
technology, organization and customer service, vertical industries (eg.
health, financial, etc). Excellent market research if you can afford the
full reports.
Fraser Institute - Reports and articles on a wide range of subjects
including: economy, social issues, public policy, health, eduction. Many
articles listed by date of publication, so try using the "search"
feature.
InfoTech Trends - Reports and statistics on the information
technology industry. Click on "free data" for free reports.
International Data Corporation - Research and reports on eBusiness
and information technology industry. Some free information in "Hot new
research" and "free research" section of "Research Store."
Ipsos Reid Market Research - Click on the "Latest News and Research"
for global data, or Click on "Canada" for AngusReid's Canadian market
research and public opinion polls. Topics covered include: agriculture,
food processing, consumer, energy, finance, health, Internet, lottery and
gaming, packaged goods, public affairs, technology, youth culture. Most
reports are fee-based, but some free reports and free information
available in report summary downloads.
J.C. Williams Group - Free overview of Canadian Shoppers Online study
and Canadian Women Online study.
Jupiter Research - A U.S. fee-based research site, but register as a
guest and get free reports and information on a variety of
consumer-based markets. Excellent market research if you can afford the
full reports.
KPMG - Reports, papers and surveys on: fraud, cybercrime, ethics,
automotive industry, real estate.
Millward Brown IntelliQuest - Reports, papers, presentations and
online calculators relating to Internet advertising/marketing
effectiveness.
Nua Internet Surveys - Statistics, reports and analysis of Internet
activity. Information on various Internet vertical markets such as:

Opinion Search - Publications - Free older ('94-'95) reports on

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada - Link to the site map—scroll down

Canada Business Service Centre - Select the province that you are
